Exturdehone stock or buy aftermarket intake
Trying to make my mind up. It cost $375 to extrude a stock intake, the same amount of money a Edelbrock intake cost. If I buy the edelbrock intake,I can use the porting kit from Eastwood Company that I purchesed awhile back. I've never tried to port anything...so I won't take too much material off the edelbrock intake. Any ideas.

Keyword here, is "supposedly" an extrude honed lower base will move some serious air. Equal to or better than the aftermarkets. I do not have flow numbers to back it up with, just what I have heard over the years.(I'm talking back to highschool days 10+ yrs ago even)
The stock intake has a lot of room left for porting and cleaning it up, especially in regards to casting flash. I did this to my leftover intake from my Formula and it came out quite nicely. Plan on using the ported stocker with modified stock runners on my stock 91 350 gta when i do the valve stem seals and reseal the intake. If someone tells u its a waste, check out the pile of aluminum you have left over when your done.
Do a search for tpi intakes and extruse honing and the like and you should find more than the info you would ever need on the subject.
Also GMHTP did an article and flow tested various tpi offerings, like edelbrock, stock, accel, etc runner and intakes. Searching should net you that info here as well. It was discussed quite a bit on the boards
I think all the aftermarket tpi bases are about 150$ overpriced. I own one for vortec heads, it runs u 400$. There is also the used alternative like the classifieds.
If u decide to go the extrude hone route or any of the others, u can see if there are any current group purchases going or find out how many people u need to start your own.

How would you pressurize your poop enough to Exturdehone your intake? Mexican or Tai food??? ...and would you eat crushed walnut shells for the abrasive??? Ouch!
I don't see an advantage to Extrudehoning the intake other than on some aftermarket runners or something. The base and plenum are way to easy to do yourself if you already have the P&P kit from SA.

Buy aftermarket now then later extrudehone it. I extrudehone my TPIS Big Mouth Base and my Super Ram Runners for $600. I just have to finish tuning the car to get the max perfomance.

If it were me i would buy the aftermarket and port it myself.
Ive also read that a ported stock base can flow as much as an unported aftermaket base.
But I think you can port the aftermarket even further. Thats what I did anyways.

I cant seem to keep a tranny in the car long enough. 3/4s are toast...The Motor is making good power now. After lots of problems and tuning!Just have to get it to the ground. I have to spend the money and get a good tranny and rearend setup first.

practic porting the stocker. Buy a aftermarket and port it when you feel you can do it right and not mess it up.
Then have it e-honed as the last step.
