Stock ignition
Good question, I installed a Crane 6hi mainly because I got it cheap. All I've read and heard suggests that the HEI is very good and the real need for multiple spark is debatable, especially below 6000 rpm. Winter in Minnesota (if I stll lived there) I would certainly keep my Crane but your money may be better spent making sure the stock system is perfect....maybe add some good wire. When adding a hot ignition make sure the distributor module will handle the high switching current common to most CD ignitions. My stock module is holding using the Crane, 9mm wire and .065 plug gap.

Get a better coil and you'll be fine. If you are running higher compression then you might want to get a different system, otherwise you don't really need it. I went with Crane Hi-6S for the higher spark energey, multiple sparks and the built in rev limiter.
