i trying to start motor after changing some things had all power to gauges lights etc. tried starting a couple times and cranked and backfired. tried about three time to get car to start. then thought {NOOOO!} I DID NOT HAVE A GROUND FROM THE MOTOR TO CHASSIS. now the check engine light does not come on when the key is cycled? bulb is good

any suggestions greatly appreciated

Easy two-step process:

1.) Have someone kick you in the nuts.

2.) Check all fuses and fusible links.

 

When my check engine light didnt come on with the key forward it was simply a 20 amp fuse located right in front of the battery, it goes to the fuel pump, if your oil pressure sending unit goes bad it will blow this fuse.

 

yes, the kick in the nuts did it!!!

there is a short in the wire to the fuse to the pump.
repaired: car fired right up thanks dan8289gta my brain was fried after 12 hours of aftermarkrt part installs.
