Engine Knock....Collapsed lifter?
Well, last night I decided to take the car out for a spin "literally", and went to my work after hours and did some nice donuts. Right after doing them, I started driving off, and I noticed I lost a little bit of power from my engine. I didn't think much of it untill I then noticed a knocking noise coming from my engine. I drove home and my car was ticking and squealing when I was accelerating, which wasn't very fast because I lost even more power. I got home and immediately checked the oil level. Don't flame me for this, but not a single drop was to be found.
I know, I know. I added about 3 quarts, and the oil was at operating range. I let it sit for a while and then started it back up, and the knocking was gone. I thought I got extremely lucky, and I waited overnight, checked the oil level again, and took it out for a drive. It drove fine, but when I pulled into my garage, the ticking returned. I shut the car off, and waited about 30 seconds, then started it back up and the ticking was gone. I also noticed the ticking occured when my car was at about 2000 rpms. My dad thinks its a collapsed lifter. I really hope I didn't f-ck up my engine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

well.... you might want to find out why your engine used 3 quarts of oil. Bad rings? Bad valve stem seals? Obvious leaks? You might want to know where the oil was going so you dont have to do this all over again. Just tryin' to help out.
BTW.... did you spin the rod bearing in the con rod? If not, you may not have to take apart the top end of the engine.
If you did, you can get those resized yaknow.

Take it easy on the guy. He feels bad enough. We all have made mistakes at one time or another in our life time. The bigger question is "Why did his engine run low on 3 quarts of oil"?
Sorry
Look on the bright side. Something broke becomes something better
