Beefing up the TPI
Okay, what I have is a pretty much stock 350 tpi with almost 90,000 miles on it and the car is an 89Firebird Formula automatic. This summer a friend wants to race me at a drag strip to see who will win. He is running a 98 Mustang V6 5 speed with a few mods to it. New chip, factory headers, off road h pipe, no cats, cai I think. Right now mine only has and air foil on the TB, borla cat back exhaust.
We have ran next to each other on the road and it is fairly close but neither one of us is really pushing it. I am wanting to know some bolt on parts that I can put on to give me a little more HP.
I am thinking about putting on a 58mm throttle body, slp tpi runners, custom cai. I know headers will help and either a high flow cat or not cat will help and also nitrous but these will possibly come later. Here in Iowa there is no inspection on cars for emissions so i wouldn't have to worry about not having any cats.
Can anyone else think of any other easy bolt parts I could get to boost my HP so I can beat my friend in the race.

headers a high flow cat and catback exhaust would be the first thing i would do. your stock TB is not a restriction at this point and wont be until you make some serious power. the slp runners would help a little bit on the top end.

I can't agree more. Do your exhaust first. That's where your first initial big gains will be. Allen

What headers do you guys suggest? I am guessing shorty headers instead of long headers would be easier but when buying a set of shorty headers, does the y pipe come with them or does that need to be bought separate. Thanks for the help so far. Any other held anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking of edelbrock shorty headers but not sure. Let me know what you guys suggest

Like I said, I dont know everything he has done to his car but it is quick. It isn't supercharged or anything like that he has just some bolt on things on his car right now and a modded chip as well.
V8Slayer, so I should get a fuel pressure regulator after I get the exhaust? When I step on it my fuel pressure goes up to about 44psi then drops back down when I let off.
Now for the hooker headers. I have looked around and it looks like jegs has hooker headers #2055 and they have the same number in the super comp shorty header catagory and in the super comp header category. So are these headers shorty headers or not? Also with these headers, what y-pipe is used. I am having a hard time finding that for these headers. Let me know if you can help me out with this.
