is it better to clean them or just buy new ones? For the price that is.

If you have the original OEM Multec injectors then do not bother cleaning them. Cruzin Performance is the best place I found to clean fuel injectors. I asked him if he would clean my Multecs and he said it was not worth it. I have posted my response from him, which you can search and find. The consensus around here is Ford Motor Racing SVO are the injectors to buy for these cars. Aside from the hearsay of putting Ford products on GM cars, these injectors are highly recommended and relatively cheap. You will need 19lbs/hr injectors. If you are cleaning/changing injectors now is the time to install an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (AFPR) and do some plenum, runner and intake manifold porting or upgrading of these parts depending on your budget. Several companies make AFPR; however, Holley is emerging around here as a favorite. All these parts can be found at Summit Racing or Jegs. Search this site and you will find lots of recent information on these products and porting and installation procedures.

thats interesting info, these are the original parts, I just bought the car from the only owner, infact i was there when he bought it new from the dealership in 86, we worked at a chevy dealer, he was a tech, and i worked in the bodyshop..

he did very good upkeep on the car, but almost 20 years later a few things need attention. 2 of the injectors were starting to leak at the seams, i also have 6 extra from an 86 305, i was going to send them all to cruzin, i liked the price 12.00 is a very fair price...maybe i should call them and see if they will even work on them? as they are most likely the multecs..

also i intend on doing a little porting (maybe) does anyone here do that for you? plus im going to put a mild cam in there too, 1986 305's got short changed in the cam dept.

nothing rediculuos, just a few little things, i want this car to remain stock as possible with a bit of punch!

thanx for the input.

Gene

Your injectors will be the Bosch design injectors. The Multec design weren't installed in the TPI's until 1989.

I am the original owner of my 1989 GTA 5.0 Liter TPI 5-speed. You could e-mail cruzin to inquire about cleaning but if these are the originals and are starting to leak they may be near the end of their life. I only found one website that specializes in porting TPI intakes and they never responded to my e-mails. Any good machine shop can do this for you. I also wanted to keep my car stock but give it a bit more power. Recently, I got a replacement rebuilt engine from GM and had a Comp Cam, Heddman Headers, Walker super turbo muffler, removed the catalytic converters and air pump, MSD ignition and K&N air filter installed. Noticed a big difference. I am contemplating porting the intake, Ford SVO injectors, Holley AFPR, Crane 1.6 ratio roller rocker arms, Hypertec secondary fan cooling switch and Jet custom PROM to complete the engine.

Go up to “ Banned Topics” to get all the information you need to begin porting and lots of other useful information. Then key word search on other modification topics and spend and hour or two reading everyone else's experiences here before you spend any money.
