Need input on L-98 Rebuild
Need input on L-98 Rebuild
Recently aquired a complete L-98 TPI engine from a '90 Vette. I have purchased a zz4 cam, Speed Pro H631-CP pistons, .030 over. Need advise on the rocker arm selection, pushrods, rods, computer chip, and any other info that would be helpful prior to start of rebuild. Car will be street driven only, auto, with 3.07 posi. Would like to make 300+ hp. Budget is $1,500. Thanks.

I would say just keep your rods, but have them looked over, shouldn't cost you over $10-15 per rod. Just get some new bolts like ARP's for them. Unless you are planning on running forced induction then look at some forged ones, but even then your stock ones should handle quite a bit. As for the computer chip burning one yourself is the absolute best because you will be able to log your own data and make all kinds of changes until it is just right. but most people do not have that luxury. I would say contact Ed Wright for a good one otherwise I have heard some good and bad things about PCMsforless.

Slap a carb on it! Ha ha!
Does anyone think roller rockers and a bigger throttle body would help him get to the 300-350 mark?
Moose-- have you had any exhaust work done already? If not a catback, headers, and a hi flow cat will do wonders for any engine.

I'm running the Comp Pro Mag roller rockers and they are very nice rockers.
It's difficult to quantify how much HP gain you'll see, but roller rockers will actuate the valves a lot more precisly and repeatably since they don't flex like stockers do. Plain rockers will make your oil temp hotter too.
Can't go wrong with Comp pushrods. I'm running ~400 lbs of spring press and haven't had any issues with the rockers or pushrods.
Definately burn your own chips. It's easy to do and the equip costs less than one aftermarket chip.

Roller rockers are good for at least 20 horse on a 350.
If your going to spend the money get them from a reputable brand name thats been around like Crane or Comp (pay now or pay later ) if you do get Roller Rockers be sure to get hardened push rods as well.
