Tachometer Connection for Tuneup

Can someone post some details on connecting a diagnostic tachometer to the TPI distributor. I want to do the IAC and TPS check/adjustment for my idle speed which is currently too high. However, I can't figure out how to connect a tachometer to the distributor or coil. Can someone put up a diagram or photos of how this can be connected. I have an older tach for distributors with the coil and points but nothing with the HEI and separate coil. I even have a multimeter that can check this if I know where to put the red and black line pins into the connectors.

Thanks,
Scott

Take the wire on the tach for "negative side of the coil" and splice this into the wire on terminal 'R' on your distributor -- on the 4 wire connector, it should be the 3rd one, counting from the left. If you pull the cap off, you should see the module labeled 'GBRE'.

Anyway, terminal R is a tach-reference signal and should give you what you are looking for.
