I was really happy with plain GM L98 aluminum Vette heads and their HOT cam back when I ran TPI. Made ~290hp/360tq at the rear wheels with no porting or polishing on the heads, idled a tad lopy and passed NJ treadmill emission testing easily.

Scan of the dyno sheet with a 52mm TB, polished stock runners, Accel TPI base is here:

You have *iron* L98 heads with bigger combustion chambers presently. I ran *aluminum* L98 heads with 58cc chambers. More compression.

I polished the insides of the runners just to clean up the junction of the tubes and the plates. There's not much material there to do porting work on.

The thing is that stock L98 Heads dont flow as nice as something like Dart 180s or some of the other after market heads.

Also you have to understand that if you change out from Cast Iron heads to Alm, the Compression should be higher. cast iron heads are best at 9-9.5:1 where Alm. Heads are best at 10-10.5:1 or even higher depending on your cam

My L98 was just rebuild & bored out to a 355 with a lingenfilter cam & will get Dart 180 Alm straight plug heads as soon as i get the money.

The cam I went with is very Computer friendly Here check it out Of course I am going to have to take it back up to the shop that where it spun its bearings but they will know for sure the car has 0 miles on it before it goes up there.

Lets see a hypertech chip & opened up the airbox at the bottom other then that it was stock.
It was also a very cool day out side bearly even 60 degrees & we were at sea level.

I dont know I think it was all a fluke really But it was mid April a couple years ago. I think with the combo I had with the lights & the launch (well also the track has a hill that sort of runs down) it just came together that day. Back to back 1.992 60ft that day.

Oh I forgot that I also had an airfoil in it too.

But last year I had sucky times because I had to Launch at idle due to the fact of if I didnt the car would go side ways. This year I am not racing the car since its ripped a part in my garage with the new engine sitting beside it. not even ready to go in.
