Cam install question
Cam install question
Hi,
I have headers and hooker cat back and i figure i have to do something to get even more out of the current mods.
So, i guess a cam change and runners and plenum porting.
Changing a cam on an engine with a timing belt required removing the belt and then settign it all up again... How is it with the timing chane when changing the cam
How hard is the cam change after the intake is all removed. ?
If you have apic of how it looks once intake is removed would be usefull too.

I just reloaded my computer and don't have my pics available, but I'm sure someone can post one up for ya. If not, I'll get one soon.
There are dots on the gears so you really can't get too messed up. It's been awhile since I did my swap, but I was a first timer, and had no trouble. IIRC, with the crank at TDC/#1 compression stroke, the dot is at the top of the gear. Then you just line up the dot on the cam at the bottom so the dots are next to each other. All the other timing of the ignition works off of that being done properly which is pretty darn self explanatory.
When I did my swap, I read the Haynes manual (which was actually pretty informative) and then just asked questions about the things I didn't understand.
the actual swap took about 2 minutes once the intake and all the accessories were off. the only real PITA is getting the timing gear cover back on without dropping the oil pan since the oil pan makes up half of the front seal.

Thanks for the replies, I will keep that in mind. Will I loose low end torq? I have headers and cat back hooker now.
Will I feel any difference in my pants
I know i felt a difference when changed cams on my 1.9L 16 V (160 hp) engine in the past.
By the way how hard would you say it is to change? Advanced stuff? or just needs patience?

I installed the ZZ4 cam and headers/exhaust at the same time, and with a slipping trans I could still feel the difference.
I did it by myself and the only previous experience I had was changing plugs/oil/wires etc. Now that's not to say I didn't read several different manuals on how to do it, and ask TONS of questions and do TONS of searches. I was pretty well prepared by the time the actual wrenching started
I'd say patience and being prepared is the most important thing. READ READ READ!!!
