Identifying the year and make a TPI unit is from

Does anyone know how I can find out what year and make a TPI unit came out of? I bought a complete system with heads and manifolds minus the chip but I have the computer and need to find out what car it came out of. Any help would be appreciated. THanks Russ

To start with, find out the part number for the ECM (is it 1227730 or 1227165, etc)... If it is '730, then it came from a '90-'92 F-Body. If it is a '727, it came from a '90-'91 Corvette. If it is a '165, then it came from an '86-'89... You also might look at the plenum and see if there is a spot on the passenger side for a MAP sensor.. If there is (and it has an additional associated vacuum port on that side), then it should be a speed density system (which would mean '90-'92)..

Look for a cold start injector - 85-88 (maybe 89?) - Do you have sensors? MAF present - 85-89.

from left to right top pic
85-88 cold start injected MAF the driver side runner on the bottem side will have a large hole towards the middle.that is for the cold start injector.this injector will have ahard metal fuel line running to the rear of the driver side fuel rail.
89 MAF no cold start injector
90-92 SD will have three threaded holes for vacume lines on the pass. side

left to right bottem pic
85-89
90-92

the intake base is pretty much the same for all years other than the intake to head bolt holes.85 & 86 the bolt holes were more streight up and down and the 87-92 are more of an angle.

Also look in that pic that 92Bandit2 posted. The plenum 'fins' on the top start further back on the SD plenum.

That pic is the best way to tell, 85-88 has cold start provision, 89 has no cold start and no map sensor. 90-92 have a map sensor

Thanks for the advice. I am really looking for the ECU computer identification. I have a feeling I got sold a computer that doesnt go to the tpi system I bought. The service number on it is 1226485. Does anyone know what car that came out of?
