PROM question

Heys guys,

My neighbor just gave me a Prom from a 1986 Vette.

anyway, my car which Had a LB9 5.0L was taken out and fed to the dogs. My new setup .. a MAF L98 backed by a 700r4.
will this 86 MAF vette prom work with a 1989 TPI car?

I was intending to run my 350 with the 5.0 PROM,
instead I could pop the 86 vette prom in that is already dialed in for an L98.

I was told using the 5.0 prom would still run, but who knows how well it would run.
my guess is it would probally be tempermental

-sorry if in wrong forum, but you guys know the most

You will have problems. The 1986 Vette did use the same ECM as the 89 F-body but there are differences; specifically the 1989 does not have a Cold Start Injector.

Also, if your new setup is re-using your originial injectors, the 1986 will run overly rich (as the Vette had larger injectors than the 1989).

Get a 1989 eprom setup to work with your configuration. IMO the 1989 programming was one of the better setups for MAF cars.

Not sure what year the Vettes started to get aluminum heads, but if they had them in 86, I wouldn't run it. I've looked through some of their spark advance tables, and they go pretty far on timing. Much farther than I would venture to go on an iron headed L98.

I haven't worked too much on MAF proms, but if you take a speed density vette prom (90-91) and run it on a 730, you have to disable code 52. I don't recall what exactly it was right now, but it had something to do with an oil pressure input to the ecm that the F bodies don't have. Its really annoying since it would keep throwing that code on the highway.
