Start up/Idle problems
Start up/Idle problems
89, 5.7 IROC. I didn't run the car for a few years, and it shows. Over the winter, I replaced the fuel pump and just finished replacing the fuel injectors. The problem is on starting, I have to keep reving it to eventually keep it started. After that, at idle it fluctuates between 500 and 1500 RPM's. Then it will go between 1200 and 600 and so on until it eventually idles around 750. This takes about 5 minutes. If I shut it down, and start it up again immediately, it idles fine. Once the idle smooths out, the car runs fine. If I wait until the next day, I have to go through the same thing again. We did have a wire come out of the MAF connector, and we may not have fixed it properly. Could this be the problem? Any help may preserve my sanity. Thanks.

Wow you described my problem complety, I am subscribing to this thread so I can follow along in you journy. The things that people told me to do are check for vacuum leaks. That seems to be a major problem with many cars. Just wondering are you getting an intermittant code 34? I am.
