Curious Bolts on my Engine?
This isnt really a question about TPI (I do have a TPI engine though) so it might have to be moved.
I have these weird Hex torque bolts all over the visible parts of my engine. Does anyone know if this was a factory thing? All the bolts on my intake manifold, for exampe, are round Hex bolts??
I want to find out because I was told this engine was rebuilt when I bought it but didnt believe them because of the buildup.
Thanks.

The factory bolts are button head Torx bit bolts (not hex).
Having these bolts still on the engine has nothing to do with being rebuilt or not... I'm confused on that one...

thanks.
the reason i asked is because someone saw them and mentioned they werent factory adn the engine must have had major work done to it.
any one have close up pics of stock bolts on the intake manifold?
that would help me out a lot.
also, the kid did say "torqz" bolts, but they arent bolts. They are just round and have a hex pattern in the middle. You cant take them off with a wrench or anything without having a hex adapter.

They look exactly like this, but Brown and they are everywhere on the upper engine. All the intake manifold bolts are these...is this stock?

That pic is a hex bolt. I thought the stock ones (intake runners and such) were torx, but I might be wrong.

All if means if they're not factory is that someone has changed them. The bolts on the outside have little to do with what may or may not be on the inside.

I was just interested, because "most" engines just stay stock and for the most part stay that way if all goes well. I just wanted to know if there was an industry standard when manufacturing these engines in the factory (that all 305's rolled out w/) and they all used the same variation of bolts.
I'm also taking off the intake manifold to replace the gasket, so I was wondering if I should put a different style that was more correct...but alas, like u said, "Bolts are bolts"

I really think my engine was taken apart, from the leaking intake man. to the smoke on start up...but other than that...but it runs strong.
Thanks for the replies

Yes, like the chrome one, but brown color. Those are the stock ones.
There are still a few on the intake in this pic I found online, but normally they should all be the same on the runner to plenum bolts.
