Gear Drive & TPI, will it not work?

I read in Summit that a gear drive isn't supposed to be used with an engine equipped with a knock sensor (like our cars). Has anyone installed one with an engine equipped with a knock sensor?

I had one on my previous motor. It doesn't cause any problems as long as it is a good one(one gear). I'm told the ones with two gears tend to stretch the metal bracing between them.

It will cause any harmonics to be transmitted to the valvetrain. A chain or belt helps eliminate some of the harmonics.

Unless you need precise timing, it's not necessary.

i have done several searches on this same topic- both here and other boards- seems it's a toss up some people swear it will be fine- other arque the other way. seems to me it would be fine since it's more of a whine than anything- but what do i know. maybe the people that said the car ran fine- didnt know that it would actually run better if the knock sensor wasn't taking out timing

I've been waiting for the past 11 years for my knock sensor to go haywire from the gear drive and start pulling timing. I'm still waiting. So are numerous others.
