sputtering bad vibrations

hey i got my car on the road today and the following occurred. i was driving for maybe 20 minutes max. came to a stop and the engine was smoking a little. i opened the hood and the smoke was comming from behind the motor near the firewall.. also, it doesn't sound like its running well. idle is very chopy, and when you go into the power band the power isn't smooth it feels like its sputtering. also my tranny fluid had some bubbles on the dip stick. i really don't know where to start to figure out what the problem is. any sujestions? i bought the car a couple weeks ago and there is no internal engine work that i know of. what could be causeing the sputtering and the smoke?

You should do a full tune-up, it doesn't cost much and it helped my 305 TPI a lot...

Get ACDelco normal spark plugs, ACDelco spark plugs wires, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve, clean the intake and some stuff with a can of intake cleaner for fuel injected engines... You could also put a bottle of injectors cleaner.

For the rest, I will leave it to someone else since I'm no tech...

I have a set of Accel 8mm SuperStock spark plugs wires and a NAPA fuel filter laying around. They are brand new in the box never installed. If you wan't them, make me a raisonable offer.
