Bad Plugs and wires
I pulled my plugs today and found a couple that were a little wet with fuel and some of them had a bit of carbon build up. Also found a couple splits and burn spots on my wires and one boot. Would this cause my engine to run lean and or rich and possibly affect the idle. I changed all the spark plugs that was an adventure, but I did it!! I have accell 8.8 wires on them now but from what I found I would say they need to be replaced any suggestions for a good set of wires priced fairly? I have another post on this board and you can see my engine specs. Also do you think my cap and rotor would have been affected buy the condition of the wires? What should I look for when I pull the cap off? Would bad plug wires cause my spark plugs to foul?

If you had a misfiring situation that would prolly cause a leaning effect. Sounds like you have fairly common symptoms typical of older motors. The fuel is a little troublesome though. You might wanna look into that further. I would say just replace the cap/rotor. You already did plugs, which is the hardest part. throw in a coil and you should be getting some lost hp back right away. I have a brand new set of accel 8.8's I would like to get rid of, 60 shipped if you are interested. Please let mw know! Hope that helps

A misfire will generally read lean to the O2 sensor, causing it to dump more fuel in. What you really have in that case is a rich condition due to a misfire. Raw fuel will be dumped into the cat, causing it to burn in the cat and melt. The casing will glow. Rich will show up as soot on the spark plugs that do fire. Wet implies either a leaking injector or a failure to fire or a liquid finding it's way in.
Leave the GM coil, it's generally reliable. Don't change anything till you diagnose the problem. You need a static environment to properly diagnose an issue. You can test if the coil is bad. Cap and rotor won't be affected by the wire condition, not in any way that I know of anyway. Look for corrosion around the terminals on the outside and inside of the cap and on the rotor tip. The rotor works by spinning and arcing to the cap terminals (not physical contact). Any build up of anything inhibits the sparc and can cause a misfire. More often than not, the spark plug wires break due to failed insulation, or just age. Sometimes the break is internal and not visible by jacket inspection. That's why it's recommended that you measure the resistance of a wire if you suspect an issue.
I like Taylor wires but even parts store wires should be fine.

I changed the cap and rotors and went with a new set of accell 8 MM. What a big noticable difference in pick up and my idle seems to have gotten back to normal at least for the time being! A nice even pull thru every gear ahhhh music to my ears.
