So code 42 cam up which says bad ignition module. Is there a high performance replacment part? Is this the same thing as the ignition coil?

did you do anything that might cause this? IE reseting minimum air or anything? If you unplug the electronic timing advance, the brown wire over by the ac, it will cause a code 42 to show up.

no i havent changed anything recently. The code popped up a few weeks ago. I then reset the computer to clear the codes out and it came back up a couple days later. I'll check that brawn wire though thanks. Any other ideas what could have caused it?

its above the heater box on the passengerside of the engine bay

it has a connector, you need to unplug it to set your timming
I belive it has a white stripe

it could be a bad ignition module, shorting out everyonce in awhile

if you do get a new 1 get Delco, its worth the extra money, I've put cheap parts in cars in the past and had them go after a very short period of time

the module is under the distributer cap, its the thing the wire plug into on the back side of the distributor,

check those wire to make sure they are in properly as well

it has 2 small screws holding it down, if you do replace it make sure you use the grease it comes with the new 1 when you put it in

its not uncommon for them to go

but trust me use DELCO

yeah i found the brown wire, But it was fine. I think I will just put a new ignition module in. Are there any performance differences with ignition modules?
