Adding tpi to my car and have wiring ?

i am adding a 350 tpi to my 85 trans am origanlly equiped with an lg4. I know the computer that came with it wont work for it so here is my question. What kind of ecu do i need to get or can i just get a chip from and put it in the old computer? i will be buying a wiring harness from painless if i cant find a good used one. i just need to know what car to get the ecu from. it is an 87 and up tpi base. i have heard that the 3.1 v6 computer is similar. anyway not to ramble, you see where my questions are going.
thanks guys.

If you are going speed density then you need the 1227730 ECU. If you are going to use MAF then you need the 1227165 ECU. There are later revisions of the ECU's with different part numbers.

The 2.8 and 3.1 used the '730. You can find one in a Corsica, Celebrity, Cavalier, etc.

Jade Grey - I have the listing for what years the 7165 came in and can also refer you to a company in florida that has a wiring harness for you as well. They quoted me $100 on wiring harness but you will have to solder on a couple ground rings because they were damaged. The computer went for $75. For roughly $200 you can get the ECU and wiring harness. Don't forget about the electric fuel pump you will need. I am in the process of the same swap so PM me with any questions and we can work through this project together.

My1986IROC-Z, I'm not the original thread starter and I have no need to convert to TPI as I have a GTA already. Hopefully, your post will help Firedragon instead.

Also you should be able to pick up a computer (whether '165 or '730) for around $40 if you look hard enough.
