305 rpm range
i havce a 305 tpi 5 speed and it pulls hard to 5200 rpms. i have stock runners base and plenum. do the stock 305's do that or do u think i might have a mild cam? like this one

My stock 305 didn't stop pulling to about 5,500. The factory 1-2 shift point was 5,000 rpm and this is a van engine. The TPI car I would think would be better.

i have taken it to 6500 on a hard race, and past 7000 once(to fix my tach), dont take it past 6K you can throw a rod, you can lose a bearing, Break a valve spring, bend a pushrod, cut the cam etc. So 6000 is as high as i would run it.
Remeber the 305 was only designed to go 4500, try not to go too far past the 5500 redline 6000 should really be a max out. Any farther than that and you are hurting your car. Remeber valve float as well.
Oh i have a tpi five speed w/ 3.45's.

Your camshaft yes it will pull to 5200, get rid of that 85mph speedo.

Factory tachs tend to be a little misleading....

exactly . Mine pulled to 4800ish . Now it's still the same ( different motor I know ...but ) ...With the porting of this intake .... the
" brick wall" is less pronounced.
