'82 Vss

Hi all,

I'm working towards putting a 305 and TPI in my '82 TransAm from an '89 Camaro. In '89 Camaro's still used a cable on the transmission for the speedo. My car has a VSS on the back of the speedo, and I'm wondering if I can use this? If not, can I use the speed sensor from my B&M lockup converter kit?

I used my '82 VSS output when I swapped in TPI, just had to change one setting in the TPI binary (VSS=Optical) and it was a happy camper.

Default setting on both the MAF and Speed Density binaries I used for my base was VSS=Magnetic, which expected a 4K pulse/mile output and wouldn't have been happy with the old optical VSS output.

Oh that is good news! What parameter did you change? I had a look at a bin using WinBin but didn't see it. I presume it's a flag?

If your '89 setup has a cable-driven output off the transmission, you don't need to change anything in software. Just hook it up to your speedo and pin the speedo's VSS output to the ECM.
