New to 3rd gen, need HELP PLEASE
Hi all,
Dodge guy moving over to the GM side. I really need some help with troubleshooting my 87 305 TPI Iroc. I swear it has a gremlin in it...fix one thing and another breaks.
Problem 1 is that it is throwing a code 21, and 22. I changed the TPS and went to dial it in and I get a 4 volt reading (not the .5+- that Im looking for) Is there anything else tied into it that might be causing the high voltage
Problem 2 is On monday, I proudly drove my car to work, shut it off, and that was the end of her....wont restart. I put in a new battery, NOTHING..went after the nuteral saftey...nothing (had a Megashifter my wife bought me to go in there). Im going to try a starter tomorrow, but this can get expensive fast if I just keep tossing parts at it.
Problem 3 I cant get the wipers to turn off unless I shut the car off completly.
Any help would be appreciated...I have a feeling Im getting into a love hate relationship with it.

Welocome to thirdgen.org! (and away from the grey-side...)
All electrical prolems...I'd start by checking grounds...main ground from battery to block/alt bracket, grounds behine the heads/between the firewall, and small braided ground strap on pass side to firewall.
Make sure all connections are clean and shiny and tight.
Then pick up a Chiltons 82-92 manaul and get with the wiring diagrams, sure seems like the previous owner did some 'hacking".

My wiper motor died and I had the same exact problem. Try replacing it, they are dirt cheap. Did you check the voltage at the starter to see if its getting power? Check to see if the voltage goes to the other terminal when the key is turned, etc. Check fuses. Also, one reading for the TPS should be around 4V, you may be measuring between the wrong wires (I did the same thing due to some poor advice).

Thanks for replying so fast.
You must have seen under the hood of this car before
The wiring has been "modified" by the previous owner. I have both the Chilton and Hayes manual for this car (came with the car)I recrimped 3 connections already, one of which was the battery to body ground. The fan is wiried to come on as soon as you turn the key. I have 12 volts on the starter from the battery, and when I tried to short the starter to get it to kick and spin...I get nothing. (which is why I went after the nuteral saftey first)
As for the wiper problem, Ill hit the local recycling yard for another one GM wants $150 for a new one. Once I get it running Ill also retry the hookup on the TPS. Im assuming since I got 4 volts on a to b...that it should be hooked b to c.
