I was looking at a car on ebay when I seen this picture. What is that between the throttle body and tpi? From the description it may be a "Helix Power Tower spacer"
What advantages does this add/have? Almost looks like a NOS cheater plate but its obviously not... 1" spacer to help the air atomize the fuel?? I dunno.., enlighten me.
Thanks.

It won't be anything to help fuel atomization unless it has twists or bumps, or something that causes an air distubrance. It does look like a spacer like there would be on a carberated engine, however as I said above it needs bumps or twists to help in any way with fuel atomization since the fuel is only injected from the injectors near the vavles.
It may be an old gimick or product that was removed from the market because it was found not to be effective

Its one of those cheesie vortec spacers "designed to swirl the incoming air". Works great until the air has to make a sharp right or left turn to enter the runners at which case your swirling pretty much stops! Nice and shiny though!

well.... do your own test... pull it off.. and see how the throttle response and drivability is... then put it back on and see what changed.. if anything

???? What would be the point of making the air more turbulent if you have a air foil to smooth out the air right before that?? Makes NO sense to me.

The only thing it does is to slightly increase plenum volume.
Its completely useless unless you have a purple air filter....

I think the idea is to create a swirl for more complete combustion. If you think about it there isn't a snowball's chance in hell you will still have any "swirl" (if there was any to start) by the time you reach the combustion chamber. Kind of like the tornado will improve your fuel economy!

It is a Helix Power Tower, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do: separate you from your money. In theory, it funnels and swirls the incoming air and gives you a better air/fuel mix. Nothing but snake oil.
