just got back from track...

dont know which one i should be happy or sad i raced last night about 5 times at prescott 1000 foot strip at fastest ran a 13.2 at about 80 mph with a crappy reaction 1.308..first time there is that normal or bad? stock 305 tpi lb9 k and n open element flowmasters and catco high flow cat ..stock everything else and auto 700r4 and 2.73 rear end and was getting dominated by the 350 guys but that was expected now my question isnt HOW CAN i beat the 350s its how can i gain top end power to atleast catch up with them AND DONT SAY BUILD 350!! thanks kyle

13.2@80mph? That's faster than any stock 350tpi. What did you really get? 16.2@80 or 17.2@80 or what?

What do you need to beat 350's? Give it a good tuneup if it hasn't been done in awhile. It's amazing what a good state of tune will do to a car. Do the free mods like the TB coolant bypass and TPI plenum porting. Swap those 2.73's for a 3.42 or 3.23 rear. Get some headers and a cutout after the cat and that will take care of your exhaust. Maybe an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, raise the pressure from stock 46 to 48-50psi. Bump up the timing a few degrees. And work on your launches!!!! Those things should give you the upper hand on some stock 350tpis, However you'll only be able to brag about beating "stock L98's". Get a fatter cam and some Vette al. heads and knock down the modded ones.

Reaction time has nothing to do with your cars speed. 60ft times is where you need to look at. What was your 60ft time? For every tenth reduced in the 60ft, you knock off .2 in the 1/4. 2.0 is a fair goal to reach for a decent 60ft. Slicks or Drag Radials will get you even better, but alot of people can get sub-2.0 60fts on regular street tires. So again, learn how to launch.

Looked through some of my time slips.. And the closest run I found to correspond with yours is a 13.25 @ 80.11mph in the 1000'.. And 15.82 @ 87.82 in the 1/4 mile on the same run.

15.80's (1/4 mile times) on a 305 isn't bad at all. Like other said.. Look into the free mods first then think about cam, intake, heads, and exhaust.. Exhaust cutouts help quite a bit and are pretty cheap from summitracing.com.

Also for a better reaction time.. As soon as the second amber light goes out GO! Also try to keep a consistant staging depth. If you red light by hitting it when the second amber goes out then try going as soon as you see the 3rd come on.

Just for reference if you goal is to hang with 350 cars, a low 14 second 1/4 time would be a round a 12.0 1000 foot time, so you've got a ways to go...

What the heck kinda track only gives 1000 foot BTW??, might as well just make it a 1/8 mile track...

Oh and the reaction time doesn't impact the elapsed time of the run just in case you were under the impression it did...

By the looks of the pic in your sig you need a new posi.
To answer your question, they do make higher # gear ratio's for your 2 series carrier, just specify what you have ( 2 series carrier ) when ordering your gears.

how do you have TPI and an open element filter?

what was your 60' time? for an lb9 (i speak from experience) the 60' makes the whole race...2 tenths ended up being 4 tenths at the end of the race.

my old setup with an lb9, auto, and 2.73 posi ran a best of 14.969@90.61 with a 2.067 60'. (9.54@72.52 1/8th)

i agree that you should do a tune up...change fluids...all that good stuff. make sure your spark plug wires are at least 8mm...and make sure your timing is set correctly. if everything is in good working order, depending on elevation, you should be able to pull off at least a 15.3 in the 1/4 as my first run ever i did that...my 1/8th was a 9.812@71.46 during that run.

a lot of it might be caused by how you launch and how you stay in the throttle. i know a lot of people (including myself) who think their car is at WOT when in reality, its just almost there.

what i did for my 60'/launch was bring the car up to about 1000 and gently roll into the throttle to try and get as much traction possible...then i would basically pin myself up against the seat and even lift my back off from pressing the throttle so hard.

good luck...try and catch a cool night to race also...70 degrees works well. (fall is optimum racing season)...if your running on street tires...dont heat em too much, just get the water off and proceed to staging.

uhhh my 1000 foot times are about mid 11's and all i got is 350 TPI with headers and a catback with 2800 stall on street tires.

to run with those L98's your gonna need cam, and full bolt on TPI or HSR or SR

Hrmm what was your 60 ft? What was your MPH? Oh yeah... 1.9 to my 2.2 and 95 to my 99.. Best run so far that BD3 doesn't tell you I have is a 13.7@103.14... Something that his 305 will never see. Another thing is port heads which he has, intake and whatever esle. I just slapped my heads back ont here with the totally stock intake.. hrmmm let me get all the same **** he has...

Oh and he was on DR's and me and my crappy as GS-C's

I can't wait to race you again when the car is running right.

I have an LB9 car and I havent been beaten by a TPI 350 car yet. Since i have switched to the 5speed i have only skated (and i mean skated!) to a 14.25 @98.2mph at the camaro superfest the next fastest L98 car ran 14.38 @ 95mph. he had L98 aluminum heads, full high flow intake, headers, stall converter, and cam. Then there was a TPI 350 car there with a stealth ram intake going bottom 15s, I dont remember his trap speed. It was very very hot that day and we were running in the afternoon, so everyone was way slow. It doesnt take too much to get the 350 guys.
