Memcal for SD 305

I got a 730 ecm with no memcal. The guy i got it from said he only had a part number for the 350 and it should also work for the 305. This didn't sound right so i figured i would ask you guys.

I went to my local GM Dealer and ask for a prom chip for a 90 camaro with a 305 and a tpi and he said that i had to have a vin number for me to get the right chip. After looking around this site and reading it looks like im retarded and a prom chip and memcal are 2 totally different things. am i right or wrong? So i need a memcal part number for a 305 Speed Density system, where to get it, and how much am i looking to pay.

http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/p4xref.html#1227730
I was reading this and got confused so i thought i would just ask

thanks guys

The EPROM mounts onto the memcal.
I don't know if the memcal is actually different for 305 & 350, though I know the calibration on the EPROM is a little different.
A EPROM only costs around $6, so instead of paying a dealer why don't you just get someone with a burner to make you one.
It might take about 5 minutes to download the correct bin and burn it onto the chip. I'm not aware of any advantage by buying a chip from the dealer.
I think there might be a couple of places online like this site http://www.geocities.com/memcals/comps.html
that may have the memcal you need if you can't find one.

I just went to the dealer to try to get a part number. So if this thing dosent' have a memcal, then it probally dosen't have an eprom either i would assume

I was told by a chip burning company that the ESC on the 305 chip is different from the 350 chip. I'm trying to sell my 305 SD chip so I can get a 350 SD chip.

Do you have a part number? And by esc u mean the knock sensor right, becasue the sd systems didn't use esc module.

The SD's esc module/ciruitry is actually contained in the memcal for the 730 style(p4) ecms's

A 350 memcal would physically run a 305 but not being modified the car would run lean due to 350 have 22# inj and the 305 only has 19#.

If car is stock I would recommend simply getting the proper memecal to start with.

That way if u play or tune, u have the best factory settings to work with for your given application

later

Sorry, it won't work, I forgot the VSS was converted for an SD swap.

http://www.efitune.com/broadcast_codes/

That has all you need to find your part number. Then go to gmpartsdirect.com and plug in the 8 digit PROM code.

Thanks for the info. I ordered the prom from gmpartsdirect and it's on back order. I remember reading about the proms being on back order for other people. how long did you have to wait. the site said usually 7-10 days or longer before they can get the part. just curious on how long everyone waited

I just received a 16151348 prom (for a future 350 swap) from www.autopartsgiant.com in eight days including shipping from the west coast. So they must have had it in stock. Of course that's a popular chip.

The prom was $53.94 but I received a 10% discount on my order and shipping on orders over $50 is free. There is only a $3.95 handling fee. I order a lot of my AC/Delco parts from them.

I guess you are going to pay the $10 shipping at www.gmpartsdirect.com.

yeah, it was $62 and some change. I thought that $10 shipping charge was stupid, It'd probally cost a couple bucks to ship the thing. Oh well it saved me money over the dealer.
