car shuts off and funny idel and speedo
Hey everyone i have a 88 firebird formula 305. okay one day i was driving and it just shut off on me i thought it might of been a vaccume but i checked and it wasnt. then i was on the freeway going 75 and it shut off on me, i put the clutch in and poped it and it started right up but at every stop it would die out and when it hit 500rpms it would start right up on its own. so then i replaced the burn off relay and it ran fine for a day then it shut off again this time i wouldnt start for 40 min and i only drove it for 5 min down the block. It through out code 33,34 and the code for the burn off relay. so i replaced the relay readjusted the tps and replaced the ignition module. ran fine but now its ideling wierd imagine a clock with the seconds hand stuck going back and fourth and also the speedo acts wierd once it goes below 5 mph it gets stuck goes down and gets stuck it does it every time for like five times. it is an electric speedo so its not getting caught up. if anyone could tell me what it could be before i spend the money on a maf i would appreciate it. also i was timing it and disconected that wire at the firewall for the timeing and the thing ideled perfect timing was off by half degree. thanks

i have similar problems with my MAF TPI (but with auto trans)
code 33 and 34 is the MAF sensor, so i'm afraid it's a bad MAF - i think i will buy a new one the next days
what you could try before buying the pricy MAF is to replace the pick up coil and/or ignition module in the distributor, since this little pieces are often responsible for idle problems

I should try getting a new MAF sensor. The other day, I got my injectors replaced. Also, I replaced the pick up-coil, egr valve, egr solenoid. Funny thing my motor runs but just stops. I wonder if its my MAF sensor or something. Ohh, if you guys are wondering, its a 5.0L 91 Camaro Z28

hey everybody in case your wondering i replaced my coil yesterday. and then the strangest thing happend my alternator caught on fire on the inside. as soon as i started the engine after i installed the coil the alternator started smoking like crazy and it just hade a little flame inside. but good news is it was still underwarante so i got it replaced for free. but so far i drove it for at least an hour and hasnt shut off. bad news is my speddo is still acting funny wich makes me not get to excited. i have a gut feeling its not fixed. does anyone have an idea why the speedo would do that. the car hasnt thrown any codes for a while now. i swear grimlins are real. thanks for the replies ill keep trying.
