The pulg wire that hooks up to the top of the coil keeps coming loose when it heats up. They are aftermarket plug wires. It looks like there is some type of clip that hooks up to the top of the coil to prevent the wire from moving. Anyone know what i'm talkin' about?

 

Sounds like the terminal clip inside the boot is loose and won't hold anymore. Sometimes you can buy just the coil wire from the parts store.

I have gotten away with gently squeezing the boot with pliers to close up the clip a little.

 

That is exactly what is going on. I realize that. i have pinched it back together many times. It keeps coming loose though from the heat of electricity i think. Any ideas on how to keep it from coming loose.

 

Have you tried swapping the wire around? Put the coil end on the distributer and the distributer end on the coil? Is the boot fully seating? I have had one that I had to trim the bottom of the plug boot so it could fully seat.

If that doesnt work find another one.

Ask around a regional board near you, I wouldnt be suprised to find someone with a good coil wire.

Some sets come with them in the box for apps that dont use them :-)

the boot plug is a straight. not the standard 90 degree ones that are on the plugs. This straight boot doesn't really fit snug at all, it more just covers the connection.

 

the proper coil wire for that application should have 90 degree plug boots on either end, sounds like you got the wrong wire.

 

I agree, you got the wrong coil wire, which would explain your issues.
