*** dammit..another problem

Ok so i take my car for a drive...runs decent, but doesnt have power, so i figure the timings off.. I go home and mess with the timing...find the highest idle...its was pretty advanced..around 12 or alittle higher...i swore i heard some knock around stock timing but w/e. Car runs good, shut it down..go inside, come back out and attempt to start it. THe car is knocking so ridiculosuly loud...sounds like smashing pans together.

Hmm... set the timing back to stock?

See how it runs then, that's a good start.

Setting timing by getting highest idle on these cars is about the most wrong way to get the timing right. Especially when the IAC is going to get opened or closed until the correct idle speed is attained if you leave everything plugged in.

If you set timing to highest idle with the Bypass disconnected, you'll end up with about 20-30 degrees base timing, which is about 14-24 degrees too much, and your engine won't forgive you.

Since you have a timing light, just disconnect the tan/black stripe wire with the single connector that's over by wires near the passenger side air conditioning stuff, and set timing to the stock 6 degrees. shut down, reconnect and restart.

sorry i typed that in a fit of rage haha..

I did set it back but anywhere i put the dizzy it knocks sooo LOUD...like as if it were really really retarded. Its like the dizzy isnt affecting the timing anymore.

i dont understand, it was just running fine..now it runs and knocks to the point of sounding like the motors going to explode?

THe only thing i can think of is that i changed the ignition control module like 3 days ago and didnt unplug the battery because im an idiot...maybe i need to wipe the computer of memory and then try timing it?..could that be it?

anybody?

I'm thinking the ecm might have gone because it sounds as if the motor is retarded really really bad. And also because turning the distributor does nothing..
