Need some injection advice.
I have an 89 camaro stock 350 TPI. I am running 3" hooker headers back w/ strait pipe, Thirdgen ram air, 24 lb ford racing injectors, stock ecu, fuel pump, and rails. Im looking into getting a nice fuel setup with full MSD ignition. Being only 18 im new to the whole MSD thing. What type of setup would i need since im running bigger injectors and plan on getting better fuel rails n pump. Any information, insight and links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You'll be wanting to reprogram the ECM for the injector constant, timing curve, and a few other parameters at least.
As for the ignition, this may be a possibility:

If i left the stock ECM then got a full MSD igntion inc. blaster coil and multispark that timed in at 2000rpm would that work out?
basically is there a way around reprogramming the ECM and using the unburned fuel to make some power?

An MSD box is a nice idea but you really dont have to do anything with the current fuel system since your engine is stock with only headers. I agree with the others that you need to get the ECM reprogramed to make the most of those #24 injectors.

The easiest way would be to find someone experienced in your area to do it.
the harder way is to go start reading in the DIYPROM section of this forum.

I'm gonna agree with Vader and others, the ECM should be re-tuned to account for the bigger injectors if you want to fully utilize them. Stockers for the 5.7Ltr are 22#'s so the 24#'s are not a huge difference, but its still a difference and it will probably make a difference when tuned properly. The fuel rails themselves should be more than enough for your setup. Its been said they can support up to 500hp in some Magazines but I've never seen this myself nor have I seen any type of test done to prove it. Maybe other members pushing high HP with the TPI intake would know the limitations better. I wouldnt worry about it unless you have aftermarket heads or a power adder. Should be fine for a L98 with boltons. One thing though, I think you should consider an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (AFPR) while going over your fuel system, maybe even a static fuel psi guage. The AFPR is a great tool to have when you are tuning the car.
You dont need an aftermarket ignition to run the bigger injectors or a better fuel system. It might be a good idea depending on the rest of the combination and how much power you are making, but not required in all situations. The stock GM HEI setup is pretty good for a stock system. I dont know the exact limitations, but I personally think its more than capable of handling a L98 with boltons. When you start making alot of power (aka aftermarket heads or a power adder) or running higher RPM's (7000+) then I think its a good idea to consider a full on upgrade of the Ignition Box and Distributor. Until then, an aftermarket coil, good cap/rotor, and good plug wires should be all you need. Of course this is just my opinion and I'm no expert.

you definately will need the chip tuned for the FORD injectors cause they are low impedence whereas the gm injectors are hi impedence plus you will gain overall performance with a custom chip PERFORMANCE RESOURCES has done my chips for over 12 years, there are many others out there that can handle the task as well!

Thanks for all the help guys. I have a place by me called Tuxedo Motorsports that can probably do that kind of work. Do you know an average price to reprogram the PROM would be?
