whats that noise ??

my cars just recently been put on the road and i took it for a spin tonight, i had it out for about half an hour just cruising around really then when i got home, pulled up onto the drive and parked it up, all was fine

when i knocked the engine off it sounded like coolant was coming out of the expansion bottle when it overheats so i popped the hood and had a look but it wasnt that, it sounded like it was actually coming from near the air conditioning canister, from underneath, it was hissing then stopping, hissing then stopping, but it sounded like something really hot cooling down. is that a normal sound or is something leaking because this is only the second time ive drove my car so its all new too me.

You says that you just got your car on the road. Was something wrong with it? Just you just buy the car? A little history would help.

Did you happen to look at the temp gauge when your were driving or after you got home?

Sounds like something might be leaking down onto the hot exhaust manifolds causing that sound. It might be oil leaking from around the valve covers or possibly coolant from somewhere. Did you see any poofs of smoke? I would say start the car and let it warm up, then get a flashlight and investigate for leaks.

did you have the a/c on? - could have just been the pressure equalizing.

Ah i think you might be onto something there, i should of mentioned this in my first post. I recently put a new heater core in, i wonder if the hoses need tightened up more, it must be that, coolant leakin from those hoses down onto the engine, thats definatly where its coming from, i wasnt sure if they had been tightened back up fully because it was so awkward getting the hoses off and even worse trying to get them back on after the new heater was in.

i definatly didnt have the AC on, pretty sure it doesnt work anyway.
