TPI w/ Be Cool fans

I haven't gotten my TPI setup in the mail yet, so I cant look to figure this out, but I am currently running Be Cool fans with their Painless wiring harness on my carbed 350. Has anyone ran their fans like this? If not, where would I be able to? Illustrations and pics would be great, if you have em.

Thanks in advance

not sure about what your asking but, running fans like is totally fine. You'll just need to figure out a way to power them on and off at the correct temp.. if it's on that SS, because the old setup is cluch type right?

I had a 85 GP and i did the same thing, i routed my wiring to a temp sensor/fuse box so on and so forth that kicked my fans on or off the correct temp.

so what you're saying is that you have electric fan already and you already have them turning on at the right temp? - if so, then the only thing you have to do is hook up one wire to the computer to tell the ECM when the fans come on. The ECM doesn't control the fans, it just needs to know when they come on.

Here is a diagam of what I have right now. Minus the A/C and on/off switch stuff. The temp sensor is going into my carb intake. If I remember correctly, there are 2 or 3 ports on the TPI intake, but those are for hoses. What wire would I be splicing into the ECM, and to which wire/terminal would it go? Why does the ECM need to know when the fan comes on? I know Im asking a ton of questions, but I'm just a caveman and your computers are strange and confusing to my simple caveman mind.

You can leave the ECM out of the loop. On a 85 SS G-body it's not needed for the ECM to know when the fans kick on that is if it's a stock ECM we are talking about. I think you are lossing people here. Do you have a TPI motor in it? no right? because thats what i'm assuming.

What ECM will you be using with the TPI?
The fan control is done by reading the coolant temp sensor and the output is turned on at the temperature as set in the PROM.

The second fan (if using it) is turned on by a separate switch installed in the block somewhere. This was a safety in case the ECM wasn't able to do it.
Second fan should also come on anytime you run the A/C.

Doesn't sound like home boy is running a TPI motor if you ask me. I think it's just a carbed 350 in a 85 monte carlo, sounds like he might be talking about installing TPI fans or something. those older g-bodys used a manual fan clutch type stock. so there would not be any signal going to or from the ecm. I think he's only upgrading the fans nothing else from what i gather. right kubihibi ?

Ok, haha. Im sorry guys. Lets start from teh beginning.

This G-body came with a 305 HO vbelted clutch fan setup, non-roller.

I swapped a 350 I built in its place. It has flat top forged aluminum pistons, an RV cam, 1.6-1 roller rockers, long tubes, RPM performer intake, and a 725 cfm Demon 4 barrel carb. When swapping I threw in a Be Cool aluminum radiator bundle with dual electric fans and Painless wiring harness. I tore out the computer, and the half of the wiring harness that went to it. I retained my gauges, but got rid of the CCC carb and distributor.

Im getting a TPI intake plenum, runners, lower intake, fuel rails, injectors, all sensors, wiring harness, distributor, and CPU from an 87 camaro. I have some heavy injectors (from a friend's mustang cobra) and am looking into burning proms (or having it done for me).

When I swap my carborator for the EFI system, Am I going to be able to set my fans up in the same fassion or am I going to have to run through the computer? Where is the provision in the lower intake to install my Be Cool sensor?

Fans don't NEED to be run from the ECM but it does give you control over the on/off temps.
a simple switch will do the same.
The TPI intake will have a coolant sensor in the front. You can use the port on the heads as well for another. Your warning light switch on the dash is on the drivers side head, could do the same on the pass side head with a fan switch.
Checkout "chevythunder.com" for TPI swap info.
