So I want to upgrade my 85 tpi to a better motor. Im going to get an 88 305, harness, and computer. How hard is thing gonna be to do? Will it be plug and play or am I gonna need to repin some connectors?

why do you want to change harnesses? I would recomend the computer and not the harness. My 85 T/A tpi keeps up with LT1's. If you are looking for more power right now I do not think you are headed in the right direction. You need to tell us details of what you are doing and what you plan to do.
Alright Im not going to get the harness, but I am going to get the computer. I am getting an 88 305 with 60,000 miles, headers, tpi intake and computer for $350.
With this 305 I am think about getting an LT1 cam for it and porting the base and some runners later.

lt1 cam will give you a moderate power boost, however comp cams has a wonderful selection I would recomend a 260 deg. deration with a .480" lift, and get some roler rockers 1.6, and tune. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is a definite need to get one at this point, geta gauge as well to properly set pressure, and start beeting 350's. Your in the club of 305s that beat 350s. A cold air intake, pulleys, smog pump delete, tb bypass, 160 deg thermostat, definately port your entire intake when you pull it off for the cam swap.

I am a little confused, you have an entirely new 305 to put in place correct? If so make the tiem to really clean the block, and reseal the engine while you can, your main worries are the timing cover and oil pan gaskets. Also the headers and full exhaust is a great uprage to start your power improvements. With some basic modding if the engine does run correctly 13's are in the future. if you have the ***** nitrous is a really great improvement.
Good luck keep the updates coming,

Quite a few members here have upgraded to the MAF 165(96-89ecm) or striaght to the Speed Density 730(90-92ecm).
More than one repinning article here for just doing the bare necessities ecm swaps. (ie, just changing the pin outs to match the new ecm.
My preference would be for speed density, but if u have a line on a good 88 setup that is complete and not butchered it would work nicely as well.
If going to a 165 ecm, u alos need the accompanying MAF to go with it. thats why lots of people swap to the SD setup to avoid the cost of the MAF.
If the newer harness is in better shape than what u have I would proly swap it out personally. If yours is in good shape, you can just repin it and go.

Do you think this Comp Cams CCA-08-302-8(summit part #) would work with a stock tune right till I can upgrade my ecm? The motor came with headers and a AFPR. Would siamesing/porting the stock base help alot. Im trying to do this on a budget too, as Im only 17 right now.
Do you think an 85 IROC would be in the 13's with this and a 3.42 rearend?

You can use the distributer you just need a adapter to swith distributers. And yes porting always helps the base as for the siemeising I am not sure.
best way to swap distributors would be to get the proper plugs for the later-model one and splice them to the original wires. The wires have the same functions, you'd just need a wiring diagrams...you can get the plugs at an ACDelco/GM dealer....
