I'm not a cam expert... however I recently purchased a GM ZZ4 cam for my 350 TPI. It is supposed to help make more HP/TQ in the low and mid range (where TPI is most effective).
I know it isn't the best cam out there, but they are fairly inexpensive on Ebay.
I'll have to let you know whether is does make a big difference or not... I haven't had time to install it yet
I would do a quick search. Cams are popular topics in the forum and i'm sure you'll find plenty of reading.
Hope this helps!

you need to be a little more specific than that about what you want the car to do. do you want ungodly high low end torque like most here want or do you want some more top end power to make up where the tpi sucks? you really need to match your combo well even if it means ditching the horrible intake.
if it were me i would look into what heads you want first, find some flow numbers for the heads and then talk to someone about a custom ground cam as they typically arent very much more. be completely honest with them when they ask what you want the car to do. and IMO dont tell them low end power. a v8 makes enough of that by design so focus a little more on the top end power if thats your vice. above all make sure you match EVERYTHING.

The thing is . even if you pick a cam that biases teh powerband higher . That intake will not let it accomplish that . I tryed to do it with a ZZ4 cam and a ported and siamesed aftermarket unit . I still don't see power up to 5500 like the advertised powerband is .
SO just remeber reallllly mat6ch the cam to the intake and heads.

yeah i basically have the same question as far a the best cam for my car.....i wanted to make just a little more power but not like monster power....just enough to enjoy the car....i wanted power in the mid to upper range.....as far as low end the car is good...i figure just a port job on some siamese runners and ported plenum is good....with a bigger throttle body....big question.....i know most thirdgenners like buying the crane, lunati, GMPP and competition cams....but what about unknown brands like summit cams and edelbrock ( i have not seen or read about anyone buying them )....has anyone bought these or know of anyone.....
