TPI Conversion
OK, don't tell the TBI guys I'm over here but I have been thinking lately. What kind of power gains would I see going from my TBI L03 to possibly a 350 TPI swap? Worth the money? It's either get the 350TPI and put a few parts in it, or build up my L03 (heads, cam, intake). I want power and I have always wished I had a TPI setup. What kind of power gains would I see?

well, i'd have to say you'd see a torque difference, because the TPI is a torque monster, usually making 100 more torque than hp. so like 250/350 is a pretty realistic stock number. where are you going to be getting the TPI setup? how much are you willing to spend? theres a lot of things that come into effect, and that you have to think about.

Well, I have had wet dreams (not literally) about Accel/Lingenfleter super ram TPI kit, but I think It would be kinda silly to put it on a 305. So what I am wanting to go with is a used 350 TPI motor and just building off of it. I know just to do the swap its gonna take a better fuel pump and all the chips and wires. I was thinking maybe get some edelbrock or SLP runners, a different plenum, some headers, and a cam and be done with it. Am I loking at an expensive job here because if I went TPi this is probably what I would do. Or should I just get a ZZ4 crate and slide it under my TBI?

really dpends what you want. If you want some real power, i'm talking upwards of 300 rwhp, you need to go tpi for tunability and ease. If you want less than that, you can build a l05 to about the same hp ratign of the l98 for a lot, and i mean a lot cheaper. If you can do teh swap yourself, it would probably be worth it. To get my tbi to be a tpi car was going to be over 3500 for the wiring, tune and all accesories. That's using a stock l98.
'892,
be sure to put in a decent cam, and use heads that have
2.02 I valves
perhaps you should consider using TBI from a 454,
with some compatible intake manifold
not sure exactly what you have in mind, but is the
XXX manifold really all that better than
an intake manifold for a carb/tbi ?

well, if you can get a hold of a nice set of heads, and just get a 350 short block with a decent sized cam, around 230 duration range, if you throw the accel SR on it, you'd probably be making in the mid 400's hp range, this is waht im planning to do, however i already have the 350 block and TPI setup on my car. i just have to throw in the cam, and get a set of heads, and change the intake over to the accell, and tune my chip for it.
