Is the MAF sensor the bottleneck???

I think this has been discussed a thousand times and even more....my question is: is the MAF sensor especially the screen the limiting value in a stock TPI system?
I've got the statement from someone who said: even if the cfm rate is big enough, the screen will make the engine harder to breath and therefore will reduce its liveniness...like trying to such through a straw compared to a tube.

I appreciate your comments.

The screen does limit air flow to some extent however for a stock TPI I dont think the MAF is where you need to be concerned just yet. The screens are necessary as they equalize out incoming air so the sensor can get an accurate sample. I suppose you could remove the rear screen - but do yourself a favor and leave the forward one on.

Using SCFM flow measurements at a PD of 28" H²O, you can compare the maximum flows of each intake component. There have been numerous threads regarding the ratings of each piece. And that's just the intake. What controls the intake flow rate are the cam profile, valves, and engine RPM.

Search the archived data and you may learn something about your TPI system - Whenever teh SEARCH feature is again enabled. .

I think the MAF should be the least of your worries until you are making a fair bit of power. Whats done to the car, is it mostly stock? Leave it alone if so.

Thanks for your feedback!
I don't want to remove screens of the MAF, my question was coming from a discussion with someone who told me that the descreened MAF will give better throttle response (even with a stock LB9)....

The stock runners and intake are the 2 most limiting factors. I'd go for those first. I'd also leave the MAF screen alone.

This is an LB9? I thought you might be asking about an L98. With the 305, don't even give it a second thought. Start looking at the valve train first.
