say goodbye to tpi
well guys, after a year of tpi and daily driving, its time to remove tpi and make a weekend car out of my camaro. i think i would be happier and have more money in my wallet then tpi. I never had any major problems with it, but its time to make this car faster and tpi is no longer an option. a few questions though: i did read the tpi to carb swap articles but they never mentioned if the stock fuel pump was a flow through or not. i will be putting a holley pump in line, but can i disable the stock pump and flow through it, or do i have to drop that horrific gas tank?? also, does anyone have a pic of the wires i have to cut to make a regular hei dist wire up to the harness? lastly, anyone have a ballpark of the value of my entire tpi motor, or would it be best to sell the parts seperate? im using a 70 010 4 bolt block for the new motor, so i dont need the l98 motor anymore. thanks alot guys

you can, from what I understand, flow through the stock pump... but you may have problems with vapor lock. They also sell a FPR specifically for carbs that will let you use your stock electric pump.
Mine wouldn't flow through. - You could easily run a 3-port return style regulator and run the factory pump, which is a really good way to go, because then you will always have good fuel delivery.
- best thing on the wiring is to completely remove the ecm motor harness and hook everything up from the dash side of the motor harness. Then all yur guages, etc will work fine. Old-style HEI just needs a key power on wire, which you'll find in the harness.....can't remember which color...thinking pink one going to coil should be it.

Let me get this straight. You "think you would be happier" with "MORE MONEY" in your pocket and not have the "TPI" fuel injection. So, you are going to spend $$$ to, probably go "CARB" is my guess, like most others here who think that a carb is superior to TPI. If you like to jump in your car, turn the key, and drive....why would you take of the TPI? And better yet, why would anyone encourage this? Is the car "Not Fast ENOUGH"?

He thinks by having more money in his pocket that he will be able to afford the gas hes going to be dumping into the car more often with the carb.

He says he wants to make the car more faster. All he will do is shift the RPM band around. If the rest of the combo falls short, (heads, cam, CR, etc.) it does not matter what type of induction you use. Just switching to a carb, is not going to make your car any faster, and you will most likely waste fuel in the process.
Also, why would you want to butcher the harness, and fuel system in such a nice car as that.

well before everyone gets all upset at me, did you read that im completely switching motors???? i want to put in 4 bolt 350 with camel hump heads, a 250 some cam, nitrious, i want to get into the 11's with the car, i honestly do not want the hassle of trying to make the tpi work with that setup. by the time i get new injectors, pump, tune, stealth ram, throttle body, and lower intake, i can just rebuild the 750 i have, clean the victor jr i have, get a dist, and bolt it on the motor im putting into the car. the car is NO longer a daily driver, thus i dont care about gas mileage or start ups. and if nobody wants to me to butcher my car then someone sell me a carb 5-speed car or at least buy mine(since i put in the classifieds) so i can find a car that i wont have to butcher haha.
Totally understand. Everyone has the right to do whatever they want. To go 11s in a stock weight f body, you are going to need roughly 450-500 flywheel HP, with or without nitrous. In your case with. I would shy away from those heads. Getting them to perform is not worth the effort involved. Even after you modify those old heads, you can buy new heads that will still ouflow those, right out of the box. Get your engine to go low 13's on engine, and you should be able to spray it into the 11's.
