Its a pic of a 1991 camaro RS. I think that things look a carb on top, which wouldn't be TPI? Any help...

I'm thinging of buying this car and the guy tells me it TPI I think he means TBI. I really dont know too much about these engines and think looking for a TPI engine would be the better choice. Any comments on that...

It's TBI. A carbed engine would not have that AIR management valve, and would not have been available in 1991. It does have a newer water pump, though.
BTW - It's also a 305, not a 350. If the rest of the car is in good condition, and the price is right, don't let the TBI scare you away.

Thanks Vader! Yeah I am leary about that TBI. My brother had a 350 TPI that I drove a few times back in highschool that was really quick. I know nothing about these TBI exept they were rated a little lower on horsepower then the TPI's. The rest of the car looks clean. Heres a link. What do you guys think?

I paid $5200 for my '89 5spd Firebird w/ aero package. It had 55k miles back in 1997 when I bought it. That camaro looks worth the $5k. Now if it were a Z28/Iroc even better. But finding a good condition 3rd gen is getting more and more rare by the day it seems.
Go for it.

What? No dog?
That side looks clean. If the rest of the car is in decent condition, it might be worth an offer. Of course, you'll have to adjust due to what you see/find, like the apparent rust spot on the door.

If the RS is in better condition, I'd go with the RS. You can swap in TPI stuff later and still have a good condition car. With the Z28, like Vader said, has exterior problems and it has higher miles and obviously isn't taken care of.
It's your decision. But I think that RS was nice.

i was in this same boat...i bought my first 1992 RS and it was in excellent condition with a fresh paint job (the only thing it needed; and valve guide seals). it got totaled so i then drove 3 hours one way to check out this 1991 305TPI z28 5 speed which was CRAP compared to what the person described it as. well i bought it for $2900 (they were asking $4000) and am very happy i got the z, much quicker than the TBI but i had to sacrifice the rust which will be taken care of one day...
but me having the Z made it extremly easy and much cheaper to drop in my 383 Stealthram.
the moral? $5 large is too much for both of those, make sure to look in the fenderwells behind the tires for rust and look along the floorpans underneath the car for heavy rust. if there is anything BAD id pass them both up. the TBI looks good but it could just have fresh paint, you never know whats underneath...
like mentioned...original good condition thirdgens are extremly rare nowadays and having a good base counts for a lot. the TBI car would be a good Carb motor swap canididate for sure but just make sure whatever you get iuts what YOU want

Stock TPI pics, the alternator pulley should be painted black.

Also, you want everything in this picture! lol. Check for the rubber plug on the differential if not its a ten bolt and rear disc brakes.

The Picture posted by DP is from the pre 1988 models, the ones I posted are post 1988, though on the 1990-1992 models it will have a S/D instead of a maf.. S/D is more fincky.
