Random near stock thoughts.
91 GTA, has roughly 53.5k on it.
Mods are:
catback
24# inj
custom prom tuning(myself)
Dyno:
225hp
315 torque
Track:
14.40 @ 94(letting off thru traps)
2.3+++ 60 ft times
Trapped 98mph on a 110 heat index day regularly(same day as above)
(I wasnt driving it this day)
Since than and due to I have next to no budget anymore, mods are either cheap or stock parts used.
The intake was leaking a slight amount of coolant and oil and I decided to reseal it.
I had my old stock intake from my 91 Formula 350 that I had cleaned up and ported out as much as humanly possible. Rather than clean the intake and put it back on I replaced it with the heavily ported stock base from my other car that was no longer used. While I had the car dissassembled I also ported the plenum as well, just doing the TB inlets on the front and knocking off the EGR wall and smoothing the sides down. Amazingly it had a very good match to the gaskets on the top of the runners/plenum. I used regular stock runners.
I havent retuned the car yet, nor have I verified it at a dyno or at the track(just got done on mon).
I think it helped, I can downshift into second and smoke the tires. Would only do this prior if it downshifted into first. So it made me smile for a minimal cash outlay.
To those who question porting a stock base, its worth it if its all you have and you take your time to do it right.
Maybe one day I can find a set of used runners and headers to install on her and see what she does than.
