maf swaps

Hi guys

Hope I am not repeating a question again, check but did not find something similar.

here we go....89 Iroc 383 tpi with a lot of upgrades (30 lbs injectors, 1.6 rollers, ramjet intake, msd ignition system, etc...) I had a chip made a while back with an after market maf burn into it but never did the conversion. Now I see on ebay a bunch of maf from ls1 and ls6 (85mm) would that be a good swap from my stock one? I know Granatelli sells some but I am saving for a gauge upgrade also and some rims so every penny counts at this point.

thanks

ps good site in here keep up the good work!!!!!

The LT1, LSX, and more current MAF sensors are not directly compatible. The signal output of your MAF is analog voltage (0-5VDC) while the later types are frequency modulated (5V P-P square wave at varying frequency). Unless you install some sort of signal conditioning, it isn't going to work.

To make a newer meter work he would have to use a Translator like the Grand National guy use wouldn't he.

Correct. That would be the "signal conditioning" that I mentioned. And those don't seem to be quite foolproof at lower flows.
