Car dies on cold startup
When i go out to my car in the morning, i start my 88'GTA and it starts fine, but then dies. The only way for it not to die is if i give it a little gas just as soon as i start it. The car idles at a little less than .5 rpms. What do yall think the problem is? And youve gotta be specific... im kinda new at this. Thanks.

Will the car start fine after the car is warm?

My friend you will probably start what everyone else does. Go through every different sensor because most can cause this. Each time just from being newer the car will seem much better. However, the problem in most of these thirdgens. I have seen it over and over again is the valvetrain. They are weak. The cams are notorious for losing their lobes. They wear away. I had 2 rocker arms hitting just on the valvespring. Most cars it is next to impossible to chack because the valve pan covers are a pain to get off, but if you get a chance take them off and retighten your rockers, but more importantly examine that they are all CORRECTLY placed on top of the valve. They may very easilly look like they are on all of the way, but a lot of times they are not. If you want to properly check your valvetrain you need a indicator and a fixture to hold it. Place it on the top of the rocker directly above the valve and turn the motor over and watch the variation. This may not even be your problem. This is a very common cause no one ever really believes is wrong. It usually is though. Or it could be bad spark, fuel, or sensors. Start checking EVERYTHING out on the car and start narrowing down the list. If you have a chiltons manual and you read it you can easilly check most poarts on your tpi for properly running.
Give some more info anf feedback and I can help you pin the problem downa little closer until we get it.
