TPI or Carb
Hi all.
I am fairly new to the camaro world and have a question for you guys. I have a 91 camaro rs. It is tbi. I want to get rid of the TBI. Is it better to use TPI or just get rid of EFI altogether and go carb. I am going to be driving the car on the street. I can get it registered as a hot rod in PA and only drive it 500 miles per year which would be all that I would drive it anyway. If I register it this way I don't have to have emission tested. At least that is what I am told. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.

i would stay with fuel injection. you can tune the chip to match your motor.
it depends on what you want to do.
there are a lot of people here that run TBI & love it, not to mention they are getting some serious power out of it. another plus for TBI is embedded lockers. you can read about it in the DYI chip forms, Fast355 has one & i know he loves it.
if you don't want or need high RPM then TPI will work great.
even ported the stock LTR TPI doesn't breathe very good much above
46~4800 RPM.
but, if you do want to rev it more than about 4500, TBI would be the way to go, unless you get a FIRST injections TPI intake setup which is around $1000.00 for just the intake & i think the fuel rails.

Basically I am just trying to put a 350 in the car to give it some more power. If I do this are you saying that I can use my current 305 tbi setup or is there an upgrade I can get? Thanks for the help all.

Hey Fast355, I think I am going to take your advice and stick with the TBI for now anyway. Do mind if I pick your brain. I have a lot of questions being new and all. I have never built an engine in my life but I am learning and researching. This is what I have so far. I have the short block 350 built. I have a set of Dart Iron eagles s/s heads.
Can you give me more advice. This is what I am aiming for. I just want my car to have significant HP without breaking my bank. I want to put in a 350. I have the short block built. Someone I know recomended I use an XE268h comp cam. This is what I installed by the way. Here is a link to the specs on the cam. http://compcams.com/technical/Catalo...67_226-227.pdf
After reading about TBI and your advice on that I will stick with TBI. Now I am concerned about my cam choice. Will the XE268h be ok with what I have described. I hate to ask about cam selection because there are a ton of posts on here about cam selections but being so green I want to make sure I am making the right choices so I dont have to pull the engine after I put it in. If you or anyone else want to help me I would greatly appreciate it. This site is awesome and everyone here is a huge help. It is hard when you are trying to figure things out on your own but it is great that I can ask all of you guys.

My suggestion is stick with what you already have.
