Biggest cam I can go?

I have a stock 305 in my 87 Trans am. I bought a new high flow intake, runners, ported plenum, and an Ajustable fuel pressure reg. Well....I had it that far, why not go the extra mile and put a new cam in it. So what the largest I can go with a stock computer and stock heads? I already have headers, SLP cold air induction system, air foil, 3.73 gear in ther rear, a hypertech chip, and nice ignition system. I know most dont mod a 305 but mine runs really well, and just wanted to add a little extra.
I was looking at this cam and lifter set---->
eBay Motors: COMP CAM CAM + LIFTERS SBC 305-350 TPI cs 260h-12 (item 8071539636 end time Jun-08-06 15:31:34 PDT)
Any advise would be great. I took it all apart today, I'm going to start calling Monday on a cam.....Its already out

Your 87 should have a roller cam, so that cam wouldn't be right, but, it does have 212 degrees intake duration, which would be what I'd recommend on your 305.
I'd go with a split pattern cam, like 212 intake, 220 exhaust, or whatever. Keep the LSA (lobe separation angle) high, 114 or so. Stay hydraulic ROLLER. Keep lift below .500" ish with the stock heads, but you MUST put new springs in that thing no matter what.

Maybe a ZZ4 take-out if you're on some sort of budget.

Well, I'm going to use the stock springs. Thats the thing. Im not going to take the heads off.
And I'll make sure I get a roller cam. Because the lifters I took out were the roller ones.

Springs can be changed without removing the heads

What kind of "High flow runners?" Single LTR's or SLP's?

If they are SLP units, I would go with something in the range of 214-218 Intake Dur. and 224-228 Exhaust Dur. with an LSA between 114-118 and lift in the .480's on both sides.

If they are Single Tube LTR's, I would go with 210-214 degree on the intake, and 220 or so exhaust. Same lift and LSA as above.

New springs are a must, if for no other reason than your's are almost 20 years old! Oh and do the stem seals while you're in there.

I had that cam in a 305, I would go with a dual pattern in the 212/218ish range, and more lift if possible. I think it would have ran better with the stock heads and more exhaust duration. Other than that, was a smooth running engine with decent power and mileage. Definitely pass though and get a roller cam version at least.

I agree. I'd recommend a cam similar to the CC-304 (210/220 500"/510")... but have Comp grind one with more lift, while going with a 112-114 LSA.
