An HEI amplifier/switching module which operates when cold or at low RPM/load can fail to operate when warm or under heavier load. It's best to test the module by switching exercises under a coil load for a period of time, to allow the hardware to warm up and reveal any thermal flaws. You can take it to many chain/franchise parts stores and have it tested at no cost. Ask them to test it four times in succession to thoroughly heat it under load.

They are under 20 dollars. Buy that and a rotor and keep a extra on hand. The test may show they work when they do not as well.
