350 question, buying l98 iroc. Help
Hi, I found 89 iroc with l98 and T-tops with disc brakes for 4grand.
I test drove it today, and the pedal seemed very lite. Like it felt like a pedal on my corrola. The previous two firebirds I had (89 TBI and 79TA) both had very firm pedal. The car felt responsive and it ran good, but the pedal was very light.
Now, this car has 69K miles on it. I plan on getting the compression checked and have other stuff checked by a shop.
Oh, the oil pressure was between 30-60PSI almost the whole time. It ran very cool as well.
I just need to know why the feathery pedal.

What pedal are U talking about? The brake or throttle? If its the gas, its probablly got a semi loose throttle cable. It might just be a little loose at the throttle body. Either that or the cable is stretched from the gas pedal being repeatedly stomped to shizzz! How does it respond to part throttle cruising?

If your talking about the gas pedal, the spring on the throttle body is weak from use, it happened in mine on the stock twin 48mm to the point where sometimes when i came to a stop it would stay open a crack and keep the car reving at 1500 rpm. I would have to tap the gas pedal real quick to close it completely. Just get a carb throttle return spring and you should be good to go.

Its tpi. and yes, its the gas pedal. Should a car with 70k miles have this problem.

I am torn between few cars, gosh I never thought buying a car would be this hard. This way around I am doing my research, and knowing alot about third gens this time around helps a bunch.
Thanks.

T-top was an option on '87-'89 L98 350 TPI Iroc Z28. I have a 1989 Iroc Z28 with L98 VIN code "8" with T-tops.

I have a 90 iroc-z, it was "produced" in 89 to beat the 1990 "IROC" tag deadline ... but its still a titled, 1990 ... also with t-tops, fully loaded ... so depending on your "years" ... "1990" was the last release of this car. And from my own research .. it is a pretty rare car, under 3000 ... number could be lower ... can't remember exactly .. i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.
