test fuel pressure regulator

if i was to take off the assembly from the fuel rails, so it was just the regulator...

could i blow air through one side and put a guage on the other side(to read psi) to make sure i have a working regulator. air wont effect anything right, well so long as its under a certain psi (prbably under 50 just to test)

and once i know its in working order i can put it back on my truck and adjust it from there(afpr)

the regulator is off my truck right now(350 tpi) and i want to figure if i have to buy a new spring/diaphram regulaotr. or use the one i have.
