fuel pressure regulator bolts

I noticed the bolts that hold down my fuel pressure regulator look like a torx bit, but with a piece of metal protruding outward in the middle of the bolt. Is there a tool for removing these bolts, or do you chizel that "tit" down and use the torx bit. I'd rather buy the tool than go screwing around and possibly cause myself more aggravation with screwed up bolts.

Yeah, it's just a security screw/bolt, I saw an inexpensive set of matching bits @ my local Harbor Freight last week...

Whichever route you take, apply plenty of penetrating oil and allow it to soak before you even start. Perform a search for "@#$%- FPR Torx screws!" and you'll see why.

I destroyed my bolts too. I just went to the hardware store and bought some stainless steel allen head bolts. only a buck and much better than stock ones.

I bought that torx bit, the whole set, at the dollar store. Mine came off pretty easy.

They aren't impossible to replace, they're just difficult to replace. Go ahead and buy the cheap bit, but use it once and throw it away. Otherwise they tend to strip. I modified a bunch of stock fuel pressure regulators to be adjustable several years back. I got into the habit of discarding the OEM screws because they're soft and tend to strip. Replacing them with socket head cap screws is good insurance.

They're a 3.5mm x 20 screw... None of the local hardware stores or industrial suppliers had them, but the hobby industry uses them. If you can't find them on the shelf at a local hobby shop, you can order them from Tower Hobbies.
Great Planes Metric Socket Head Screws 3.5x20mm (4) are zinc alloy plated, $1.89 +shipping for 4. Dubro Socket Head Cap Screw 3.5mmx20 (4) are black oxide finish, higher quality but they're rust quickly $1.49 +shipping for 4.

If they break while removing them, remove the regulator cap, and grab the stub end with a vise grip. Apply mild heat from a propane torch and twist them out. Using anti-seize when reinstalling isn't a bad idea either.

Hey i know this is an old ad but i just stepped out a couple of my security torq screws in my FPR and saw that you went to hardware store and bought regular Allen head bolts.
I tried to buy some but they didn't have the size there.Do you know what size bolts go in ?
