Radiator & cam question
Radiator & cam question
I am doing a cam swap - i removed my radiator and am getting trans fluid out of the hard line that screws into the passanger side of the radiator, near the bottom. Is that right? i can't see how trans fluid goes into the radiator, i thought trans coolers were a seperate item. Also i am putting in a lt4 hotcam - what do i need to do to the iac to get the idle correct? and what should i have the idle set to?

On my 87, thats where the tranny lines go. With the iac disconnected and the jummper wire installed. The base idel should be at 450. If its not then you can adjust it with the throttle body adjustment screw. Also if you swapping cams, might I suggest swapping the springs. And while your in there, you might as well change the valve seals.
But, a custome tune when your all done....would be the best thing possiable. I just did my swap and got my car back last night.

well once you put the jummper wire in and wait like 30 seconds, you disconnect the iac. Then start the car, set the idel to 450. Shut the car off. and plug the iac back in and take out the jummper wire. Then the computer takes over. Thats where a good tune will come in handy. You cant expect a stock computer to proform with all your upgrades. You can see everything I had done to me car. It ran really rich and really bad. I got it tuned and dynoed....It runs awsome now.

I set my base idel, then the computer took over from there. If its to low you can always turn it up. With my car (with my new cam) it idels around 750rpms. If your messing around right there you might as well check your TPS (throttle position sensor) also. I didnt think anything was wrong with mine. But mine was way up at .868
It should be at .520
