lt4 hotcam installation

how much base timing do i need after the car is running? i have a pcmforless chip programmed for all my bolts ons but not the cam. I will get the chip reprogrammed once running. I am using ported stock heads with new springs & 1.5 rockers. also do i need to reset my tps & iac? If so what do i want to set my idle speed to? right now it is running but poorly, no bottom end.

If it is idling fine, then the IAC doesn't need to be changed. Test the TPS with a voltmeter (article is on front page) and adjust if necessary. If you DO change the IAC, or minimum air, then you are going to have to recalibrate the TPS.

As for timing, I guess I'd try anything from stock 6* to 10* and see what ended up working out best.

I bumped the timing up a to 10-12* and it seemd to run a little better, but the idle came up with it. Should i bring the idle back down? Also my blms are at 158 at idle and get close to specs when running. I have not driven it since i advanced the timing to know how much that helped. I am not using a afpr, should I?

Mine is at 6 degrees. I'm not using an afpr either. I just bolted a TPI set up off a 305 onto my HOT CAMED 350, set the timing to 6 degrees and drove it.

I left my timing alone at 6*, I had to turn my minimum air up quite a bit for it to idle but it drove fine. Anytime you adjust minimum air always adjust your TPS to .54VDC.

Mine is MAF. The chip is stock. I did have to adjust min air though, pmpn is right. Otherwise the MAF adjusts everything else nicely. There would be more power in tuning, but I plan to convert to speed density and go with a Stealth Ram soon. I didn't see the point in spending money for dyno time when I know it will be changed.

I have more bottom end than I have traction, but the top end is no where near what the carb was. You can see how much power was lost going to tpi.
