ping/detonation problem, help neded!
-89 5.7 tpi
"Last" night the car was running great.
The next morning it starts pinging / knocking /detonate even at light load.
Timing is right at the spot, an has not moved (checked it with timinglight and the "timing" cable conector disconected)
Running 50psi fuel presure using the original fuel pump, have not checked the presure after problem started.
Any idaes where or what to lock for or at ?

possiable EGR valve. Whats your timing set at? When the motor warms up the egr valve tells the computer to advance the timing. So I would start with the timing. Whats it set at and what happens if you advance it a couple degrees.
Or bad gas too. With the motor cold the timing is set back a couple degrees. Make sure your running some good gas.

Checked fuel pressure also, still at 50psi.
Timing at 10* i droped it to 6* to day -still ping/detonation
EGR valve moves up and down (sucking the hose and observing it move using a small mirror)
I get detonation in neutral just by flicking the trottle 1/4 fast
if i open it up slowly = no detonation
Another problem with this car is that the ECM "senses" the WATS unit, even if i use a chip with WATS function "deleted".
I tried to cut the cable coming from the Wats to the ECM and it fired an run just fine (with the "tailor made chip") with the oem. chip thers no start what so ever with that cable disconected.
The car fires and runs but if i do a key of (stop it) i have to wait 8 (eight) minutes until it vill start again.(no mather what chip i use)
if i just crank it "1/2 turn"(no start/no engine run) and let go of the key, and instantley trye to start it again, it just cranks but no start.
-Key off vait 8 (eight) minutes an it start right up.
from what i learned the WATS "time off" is shorter...
Is there a posibilty the ECM is the reason to both the problems?
I'm starting to get a bit desperate.....
