car runs like crap at low rpms
car runs like crap at low rpms
TPI
i start the car it cranks over about 2 times starts, today the rpms stayed at 2000rpms at start 10sec later then it comes down to its normal idle 900, then does this (loopy cam) shake (rpms go 200 to 1000 up and down) barley staying running, just a hair from dying, rev it sounds normal, 5k revs smooth no back fires nothing, then when you go under 1000 rpms it starts to bounce up and down, today after a 5k rev i bring it back down to 1000rpms let off ran sound fine then stumbles then car shakes hard small heist engine died, before that it would stay running just bounce off the low rpms just about to give up and stop running, what would cause this? i did it the TB wet when i was sanding some of the build up oil deposits on it, i pluged everything in, anyone got an idea?

I had the same problem with my 85. It turned out to be the Mass Air Flow Sensor, but I would definately check everything else first, since MAFs are not cheap. Just my 2 cents.

Make sure you plugged the MAF back in securely. Any codes?
Either way - sounds like the MAF is unplugged, the IAC is operating "Well Enough" if the car adjusts idle speed. If the MAF is plugged in securely, I would run the car until you get a code. If you still don't get a code after several minutes (operating tempature reached), I would investigate the following:
Vac leaks
MAF BurnOff relay
EGR Solenoid function
EGR function
But, that's just how I would handle the problem

whould doing the TB bypass cuz a vaccume leak? i forgot to add one thing, when i had the tb off the back of the bores whwere full of a light coat of dry oil depoists, i did run the tb over water well i was whiping that hard oil off, could i maybe have screwed up something on the tb? also is there a way to test the maf? i might try upluging the maf and if it still runs the same should that rule it out as the maf? egr stuff works, i checked everything else wires plugs, its just weird how it wont idle but well stay runnig at higher rpms,

Sounds so much like my MAF issue I had, but unfortunately I don't have a great way to test this. I just tested everything else in my case, then eventually replaced the MAF.

That definitely sounds like a vacuum leak, especially if you are getting no MAF code while idling/driving. If it started when you took the TB off and put it back in, I'd get yourself all new gaskets and reinstall it, torquing everything properly.

Much cheaper to cross of the little things first. How does the car run when it warms up again?
Does it work better or the same?
